Massage Therapy at MoonWater Healing Center
The following modalities may be incorporated into your session. We will work together to find a
combination of modalities that work for you, based upon your input and intuitive guidance provided
about your session.
- Swedish Massage Therapy: Gentle gliding to increase blood flow, improve circulation, reduce
muscle tension and provide overall relaxation.
- Clinical (Medical) Massage Therapy: Targets areas of concern to reduce pain and tension and
improve body mechanics. Used to facilitate healing from injuries and specific symptoms and conditions
(see below for the kinds of conditions that benefit from massage). May incorporate any of the following
modalities described below.
- Craniosacral Therapy: Gently and gracefully releases guarding and tension along your spine,
cranium and limbs. CST restores the flow of craniosacral fluids, which calms and rebalances the
nervous system and improves the spinal structure. It also helps the body release the underlying
holding patterns and emotions that have contributed to pain and/or imbalances.
- Chinese CranioSacral Therapy: This is similar to Western CST with its light touch holds, but
Chinese CST focuses more on acupressure points and rebalancing the energy along meridians. It is
used for more specific areas of pain (back/neck pain, frozen shoulder problems, etc.).
- Myofascial Release: This system facilitates release of the fascia (tissue that connects muscle to skin
and muscle to muscle) which, if tight or adhesed, can restrict body movement and create pain.
- Reiki Energy Healing: Gentle intentional and directed use of Reiki (Universal Life Force) healing
energy to cleanse and rebalance your energy system: your chakras, meridians, grounding and aura.
- Trigger Point Therapy: Release of specific points along a muscle (knots in your tissues) using deep
(but not painful) pressure and breathwork to facilitate release.
- Essential Oils: Essential oils can be added to your session to facilitate relaxation, ease tension and
help with specific conditions - such as: improving circulation, pain relief, sinus congestion, viral
infections (colds and flu), bacterial infections, fungal infections (athletes foot), and more. For more
information about the power of essential oils, click here.
- Japanese Zen Facial Massage: Some of the techniques used in the Japanese Zen Facial massage
may be incoporated into your session, or you may choose to add the entire routine - an extra 1/2 will
be needed to include a full JZ Facial Massage.
- Facilitated Stretching: Practitioner assisted stretching of muscles, tendons and fascia that can
incorporate traction, compression or "contract-relax" methods gain range of motion quickly and
effortlessly.
- Strain/Counterstrain: Utilizes specific body positions to release longstanding pain patterns and
trigger points.
- Breathing techniques: Your session will likely include a focus on your breath. Using breathwork
techniques can help to reduce stress, help muscles to release more quickly, increase your sense of
well-being and centeredness, decrease pain and improve your overall energy level.
- Posture Analysis: Poor posture can contribute to muscle imbalances, and vice versa (your muscle
imbalances can lead to poor posture). As part of your intake, postural imbalances may be evaluated
and then addressed during your session. Often, exercises are needed to help prevent problems from
reoccurring.
- Recommended Exercises for follow-up self-care: If time allows, your session may include
recommendations for follow-up care, including specific exercises, to prolong the benefits from your
session.
